Plate of Chocolate Candy Poke Cake with caramel and chocolate drizzle

Chocolate Candy Poke Cake

Ah, box cake. How we love you, hate you, and need you to make the world go ‘round all at the same time.

I know I’m not the only one that wishes they always had the time and energy to make every cake from scratch, but the reality of a busy mom life proves otherwise.

Sometimes you just need to grab a box of cheap cake mix, eggs, and vegetable oil and make something happen. But oh how we wish there was something more creative we could do with that box of cake!

Well that wish has come true. Enter the magic of poke cake!

It’s super easy, but looks impressive like something you spent a couple hours making. This is a quick way to impress some people and trick them into thinking you’re a pro baker!

And who wouldn’t love a dessert with a crushed candy layer on top?

The beauty of this easy recipe is that you can pick whatever topping you want or even a different flavored cake mix and make it completely your own! Customize it to your family or friends’ taste and you’ll be a hero.

Now don your cape proudly and grab a whisk!

How To Make Chocolate Poke Cake:

1. Preheat oven to 350 F.

2. Bake cake according to box instructions. Bake until toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.

3. Let cake cool.

4. Once cake is cool, use the end of a wooden spoon to poke about 20-30 holes in the cake.

5. Take the jar of caramel and pour it into the holes of the cake.

6. Take tub of cool whip and spread on top of the cake.

7. Use a knife and cutting board or a freezer bag and a rolling pin to cut up/crush the candy or topping you have chosen and sprinkle on top of the cool whip.

Side Note: These are the knives I use and they are seriously the best. I’ve had them for 5 years now and they’re still going strong for such a great price.

8. Best served cold after chilling in the fridge for at least an hour!
